Unto Us a Child is Born
Christmas is such wonderful time of the year! We spend extra time with family and friends, exchanging gifts and sharing our favorite foods! I love to drive around the neighborhood and see how others have decorated their homes with lights and garland. I also enjoy hearing my favorite Christmas carols and hymns. Christmas is a season of joy, peace, goodwill and hope!
Hope... I have so much hope! My hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. Allow me to share my story...
I grew up in a loving supporting family. I was fortunate to have all of my needs met and I always knew I was loved.
My family always went to church together. Many of our relatives went to church with us. I grew up listening to all the Bible stories. I understood at an early age that God loved me and that He is holy. I learned how Adam and Eve were created in a perfect world. Perfection was soon disrupted when Adam and Eve chose to sin against God. (Genesis 3) As a result, all of us are born as sinners and break the laws of God on a regular basis. I eventually learned about how God sent his son Jesus to the earth to be born as a baby, a baby in a manger over 2000 years ago. He lived, grew up and worked on the earth living among people. He was tempted in every way, since he was completely human, and yet never sinned in his whole life since he was also God.
Jesus came to earth for the purpose of being the bridge that allows me to have a relationship restored to God. (John 3:16) Jesus was crucified on the cross for crimes he never committed. He died, was buried and then rose from the grave and conquered death. He did this so that I (and actually you too) could be saved from the punishment that I deserve. Jesus is alive today!
Since God is holy and I am a sinner, I came to realize that I needed the work of Jesus and the salvation that he brings. (Romans 3:23) Because of Jesus Christ paying the price for my sin, I am now a child of God. He sees me as righteous through the blood of Jesus. I can rest in the love of God and know that someday I will see my Savior face to face and spend eternity in Heaven with God after I die. (Romans 6:23)
I am so thankful for the work of Jesus in my life. Daily, I am reminded of his love for me. From the baby in the manger to the man on the cross, Jesus was obedient to His Father because of His love for us. There is no greater gift! Seek after Jesus today.
